As the COVID-19 pandemic continued to spread, more and more governments and international organizations turned to SORMAS as a critical tool for managing and controlling infectious disease outbreaks. With a growing number of experts, organizations, and companies involved, what started as a research project lead by Prof. Gérard Krause at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research has evolved into a global movement within the open-source and public health communities. To sustain and professionalize this rapid growth, the SORMAS Foundation was established.

Based in Brunswick, Germany, the SORMAS Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable international public health, with a focus on preventing and controlling transmissible diseases.
